University of Western Ontario

About

Also known as just plain old Western, The University of Western Ontario is located in London, Ontario.  It is home to the Mustangs and the Purple and Proud!  And proud this place is, indeed—its alumni association is the second largest of all Canadian universities with over 250,000 alumni working all over the world.

Why are Western alumni proud to be a former Mustang? Let’s find out!

Academics

If you’re a fan of House, perhaps you’re searching for Canadian universities that will allow you to study diseases. You can get a degree in Medical Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and specialize in Pathology & Toxicology.

Like making movies? Are you more interested in what goes on behind the scenes than what happens on screen? Major in Film Studies—who knows? You could be the next Spielberg or Scorsese!

Learn about how technology affects our world and study Media, Information and Technoculture (MIT).

Get your Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Foods and Nutrition at Western’s affiliated College, Brescia University College, one of the few women-only Canadian universities.

Become a Western Scholar and get rewarded for all your post secondary academic accomplishments!

Western’s Bachelor of Arts with a Specialization in Music Administrative Studies is the only of its kind among Canadian universities.

Athletics

Join the water polo team or any of the other 20+ varsity teams and compete at the inter-university level.

Interesting in a highly physical water sport? Join the rowing team.

Meet the Mustang mascot JW (his favourite food is pizza by the way).

Learn the Western Mustangs Fight Song and join in the cheer at the next sports game!

Campus Life

There are 9 residences at Western with 24/7 security.  Want to see them? Check out this virtual tour.

Check out the Learning Community, a place where you can go and meet other people with the same interests as you.

You can certainly feel safe around campus throughout your post secondary years with all of the security around (campus community police, the Student Emergency Response Team or SERT, and Foot Patrol).

The University Community Centre (or The Mall) is full of all kinds of services and outlets for students and staff—for example, a grocery store, travel agency, day care, chiropractic clinic, and so much more!

There are 2 wind tunnels on campus, which are used to test the aerodynamics of different buildings and bridges.

Extracurricular Activities

There are 15 Tim Hortons on campus—Never be left without your Double-Double or sprinkle donut again!

There are nearly 200 clubs you can join (although we suggest you don’t join all 200!). From UNICEF Western to OXFAM Western, and from a break dancing club to a knitting society . . .  there’s plenty to pique your interest.

Enjoy a meal or a night out at The Wave or The Spoke and Rim Tavern.

There is a cinema on campus!  Western Film is open 7 nights a week and plays recently released movies.

Get a membership to Purple Bikes and borrow bikes for up to 48 hours to get around campus or town.
