Known as Canada’s “university of the imagination,” Ontario College of Arts and Design University (OCAD U) looks like a pretty crazy fun place to go to school. The only institution of its kind in Canada, OCAD U offers meatier visual arts and design programs than you’ll find elsewhere. And it’s also so visually cool to look at, you have no idea.

Academics
Learn all about screenprinting, book arts, papermaking, and etching with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking.
Interested in bronze casting or mouldmaking? Perhaps working with plastic or wood? Consider a major in Fabrication Studios.

Athletics
Every Thursday, head to Butterfield Park and play a game organized by the students via OCAD U Athletics. Ultimate Frisbee or Capture the Flag anyone? Sometimes there’s soccer or touch rugby.
You may get a student membership at a nearby gym or fitness center.
Sign up for a weekly yoga class.
Campus Life
OCAD U has a laptop program for you to take advantage of.
OCAD U offers portfolio clinics to help you put your best work together.
Shop at the Campus Cupboard. Students operate this not-for-profit bulk food store where you can buy minimally processed, minimally packaged, wholesome, organic, and affordable food.
Tool loans are available to students from drywall knives and ratchet jig saws, to chisels and tin snips.
Visit the Starving Artist Pantry if you can’t afford groceries or need an immediate hot meal. No questions asked.
Extracurricular Activities
Spend some time at one of three campus galleries or wander around the city of Toronto and take in some of the amazing culture it has to offer.
Be a peer mentor.
The student union operates a bi-weekly vegan and gluten-free potluck meal.
